7 Ways to Double Your Winter Wardrobe

Just hold on to these warm-weather pieces.

It's that time of year—when the leaves fall and the mornings become a little (or a lot) chillier, the start of winter is officially all too real. But before you pack away your summer staples and realize you have no cold-weather clothes, keep a few choice pieces in your closet. With some slight tweaks, you can turn these seasonal styles into year-round must-haves.

Denim Shorts
Yes, cutoffs are the quintessential summer staple, but they also look amazing—and appropriate—in the fall when paired with opaque black tights. A thick wool pair will keep you toasty and make them weather-appropriate. To complete the look, add a blouse and tailored blazer or oversized sweater, then finish off with knee boots, lace-ups, or a sleek pair of pointy loafers.

White Jeans
Who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? Fashion rules are totally made to be broken, which makes styling yourself all the more fun! Pair your skinny white jeans with a fitted nude or black turtleneck, camel overcoat, and a bronze pointed heel or cropped boot for an effortless, modern look.

Shirt Dress
Shirt dresses are so versatile and cute in the summer, but they can work for the winter, too. Style it as you would a regular button-down, either over a turtleneck or under a sweater. Tights also work here, or you could try skinny slacks, booties, and a belt to cinch in the waist and pull the look together.

Crop Top
It's like fashion's little engine that could—a trend that appears and reappears each season! You know you can rock them in the summer, but seriously, these babies have versatility. In cooler months, wear it over a long-sleeve button-up shirt or thin sweater. Or wear it over your little black dress for an entirely different look. It works—try it!

Sundress
Lighter floral patterns and neon often look out-of-place in winter, so look for secondary instead of primary colors when deciding which sundresses to hang onto this season. Winterize the look with gloves, hats, scarves, and of course, a moto-jacket. One other tip: Super-short dresses can work as tunics, easily paired with classic denim jeans.

Romper
This one-piece uniform is so easy, you probably don't want to stash it away for the winter. When transitioning this style, stick with heavier fabrics and darker colors, then pair them with knit tights. Or if you love the top on one of your rompers and the bottom is more formfitting, try layering a pencil skirt over it for a completely

Sandals
Okay, so you have to say goodbye to your flip-flops for a few months, but you don't have to give all your summer shoes the boot. As temps drop, you can totally pull off your strappy sandals over tights.
